Settlement Program

At least 50 % of our population consists of refugee claimants whose first contact with Canadian culture is experienced at Toronto Community Hostel.  We immediately provide translation services and referrals to English-language training programs.  Assistance with the immigration determination process is also provided.

Newcomers are helped to overcome language, cultural, and information barriers. We provide orientation within Toronto, and also orientation to provincial and federal laws and customs.  Refugees are linked to culturally appropriate community networks and services, for follow-up care.
